Building Owner to Nova: Get Out

Here come the evictions! I wrote recently about a landlord suing Nova for not paying the rent, and now the Asahi Shimbun is reporting that Nova is being evicted from its school in front of the JR Owari Ichinomiya station in Ichinomiya, Aichi prefecture.

According to the article, the owner of the building is suing for back rent and wants Nova out of the building. Nova hasn't paid the rent in three months.

In response to the lawsuit, Nova replied that the school was open for business as usual, but a spokesman declined to comment on the operations of individual schools.

Tipping point: Yesterday.

The United Nations has agreed to provide an air drop of food, clothing and medical supplies at 10 am Wednesday 24th of October, in two locations in Japan. The first will be on Yotsubashi Dori, Osaka, near the MM centre. The second will be near JR Shinjuki station, Shinjuku dori. Please remain calm and take ONLY ONE package, so as to disperse the supplies evenly among you all.

We hope Nova will trade above 35 yen, pay you and provide shelter once all of you have clean clothes a full stomach and no more herpes/crabs/syphillis/typhoid/gonnorhea/etc, etc...

Here is the news report;

OSAKA, Oct 23 (Reuters) - The United Nations' World Food Programme has been forced to air drop food for the first time in Japan after the east Asian nation suffered its worst foreign unemployment crisis in 45 years.

In a statement released late on Tuesday, the WFP said the operation was a desperate last resort to help thousands of people after Nova failed to pay teachers salaries.

"Resorting to food airdrops reflects the severity of the situation ... the worst in 45 years," WFP OSAKA acting country director Baba Ghanoush said.

"There is simply no other way to get survival rations to isolated people."

NOVA is falling down, falling down, falling down, NOVA is falling down, My dear salary!
THere was a fax @ work today(I went in to get some stuff), announcing that British Nova instructors could get a 440.GBP flight home from HIS (the travel agent that they came with, i guess). I just wish the One used for Australia would offer a cheap flight home too :o(
well regardless, i guess i am heading home. Its been fun (till about 3mnths ago).

Well, hope somebody gets this in court. Could be a good start. Courts are where this belongs. Maybe... Any opinions ?
Let's Japan: the breaking news on Nova. Great Job !
Moving up on the website ranking. Thank you !

I hope people really dont beleive they would airdrop supplies in the middle of a city full of people waling around. let alone buildings and cars that would be damaged. GOOD ONE THOUGH!!!!!

Sorry about the missing letters in some words gotta get used to this keyboard!!!!

OWARI: as in the END.

Shawn, big arigato for always keeping us so well informed about Nova and other stuff. I am pretty sure that the branch evictions had started well before this one though.

It really goes to show how totally inept Saruhashi and the Nova group have become. There are branches that I know of in the Kansai area that due mainly to hard working branch managers and staff, heaps of kids and long term student renewals were actually turning a modest profit even through the quiet summer months.

However the Nova vampires sucked the life and yen out of every branch to try and prop up the common good. Perhaps some of these small to medium sized branches would have survived quite adequately on their own if they had been allowed to relocate a little way from the high rents of the stations or maybe sold off as some kind of franchise.

I just wanted to say my piece.

A little girl (one time Nova student) about 8 who lives in my neighborhood and knows that I had been working there up until last week asked me this afternoon,

"Is the Nova usagi dead yet?"

I just gave her a smile. I think she genuinely liked studying at Nova but when her mother had been told with two weeks notice that the branch was "moving" (aka evicted) 20 minutes down the line she along with the parents of 40 - 60 other children decided rightly so that their kids would definitely not be getting on trains late in the afternoon to take eikaiwa lessons.

NO IDEA

Sleep tight, and don't let the futon bugs bite!

What do you think I'm eating right now?

Hope it's not "baba ganoush."

the bastards got me when i moved to japan. that was novas fault as well, they didnt properly clean my reused futon. i have very few good memories of working in japan due to nova and some of the horrid foreign staff i met and lived with out there. that includes you blaise. twat.

Thank you.

When I moved into my Nova apartment, I found 7 (SEVEN!) used futons, 20-30 bags of garbage, and a used condom!

The "horrid" coworkers at my branch were the reason that I left.

Where in the world is it easy to find

A drunken British slut, a retarded Kiwi guy

Only at Nova, No-ho-ho-ho Nova

Working with the dregs of the English-speaking world

Every day banging a different Japanese girl

Only at Nova, No-ho-ho-ho Nova

I'm not dumb but I can't understand

What the stupid Australian AT is saying again

Only at Nova, No-ho-ho-ho Nova

God I miss it!! Good luck to you all! Hahahahahahaha!

My landlords wants me out of my NOVA apartment. Nova could not pay the rent this month. I have no money, no food, and no sanity. The last two days I have been shoplifting at my local Ito Yokado. I wish my family or friends would help me back home, but the truth is they can`t even support themselves so I know they can not help me out. I will try to find a pawn shop and sell my labtop, camera, and various items with monetary value. Hopefully I can get enough money from that to make it home.

Wait up, there are people willing to help. R U in Tokyo/Osaka/? If you are genuine maybe put some details up over in the forums. I'm sure you'll get some help by the end of the day.

Ha ha... great. There's always time for some satire!

British and Aussy citizens are being helped by their embassies. You should contact yours before you do something drastic. If you are going to steal then pop into a nearby Nova with a stocking on your head and have them empty the register.

Will someone please tell my boyfriend to come home???

I have a roommate that has been comptemplating suicide. My roommate and I have been taking turns secretly watching him.

I cannot understand why people need help to get home. If you have been here for a while, you should have saved something-even after you consider what Nova took from you! Certainly enough to buy one miserable ticket. If you just got here, then you should still have a return ticket since a round trip ticket is usually the same price.

Holy crap guys.

You need to hit your local Hello Work office/Embassy immediately and see what your options are.

Here's some info from one of the other forums:

Check out this site put together by someone in our situation

I'm going to investigate this further today, so I'll let you know how I get on with it. It seems to be worth a try anyway.

Good luck hommies.

Some people have just got here, and some, have spent all their money staying here while Nova dilly-dallies and doesn't pay.

While it may not have been good planing to spend all your paycheck before the next one, goodness knows they have a right to what they worked for.

I think it would have been best to save something, but that doesn't negate the fact that they deserve the pay they worked for.

I also have been considering stealing food. I am so fucking hungry.

Hello there. I am with the Korea Herald newspaper in Seoul.

I am working on a story about Nova. I would like to know if anyone would be interested in an e-mail interview. It is an important story to tell and it has implications for the Korean EFL indusrty.

If interested kindly e-mail

Regards,

matt

The Education Ministry has just made a stunning discovery: a still operating NOVA branch school on the tiny island of Okizari, some 13 years after the Eikaiwa giant folded. Okizari, a wind-swept island 150 kilometers north of Hokkaido, is home to some 300 people, mostly dependent on a small fishing industry. It has 5 kilometers of rail and one train; the NOVA school, hitherto overlooked on previous ministry visits, is located behind the outhouse at the main station. Officials walked in to find a somewhat grubby school staffed with 2 Japanese receptionists and 3 New Zealand teachers, dressed in distinctly unfashionable - and tatty - suits and neckties.

Former NOVA boss Sahashi Nozomu and some New Zealander English teachers were flown out from the mainland to deliver the following message - `NOVA is over. You can go home`. `We were sort of cut off, you see, and the admin staff just told us to keep working, so we did` explains Sarah O`Dwyer, AT at the Okizari school. `So teachers don`t have to wear neckties anymore?` she added, looking at the mainland teachers.

Meanwhile, linguists and anthropologists are eager to investigate the island, where there is evidence of some odd linguistic drift. Their curiosity was piqued by the reaction of island school girls to the mainland teachers - `ano ikimen wa sugoi furashu, eh?`

Thank you for calling those of us in a very tough situation stupid. No, I have nothing (but a paystub from NOVA for 300000|). And though this is a result of living pretty much hand to mouth, my situation is supposed to be less dire because you say I should have saved something.
Well, I didn`t. And I`m still in this situation. If one miserable ticket is so easily affordable, perhaps you would offer to loan us the money, the amount being so insignifigant and your financial responsibility being what it is.
We`re looking for answers, help, simpathy, compasssion, a reality check, perspective, productive information to help us out. Thanks for pointing out that we should have been more responsible, that I should have planned to pay rent twice in addition to a new deposit last month because I should have anticipated NOVA evicting me.

You can not understand why people can`t get home, let me help; because they can`t. It`s that simple, if you want to call us irrisponsible, go ahead, i suppose that`s what your doing. What i mean to say is; who cares if you understand it or not, people need help, so lets fuckin help `em. Or we could just insult them, so thanks for that.

News just in, seems Sahashi will soon be questioned by police.

Sorry, article in Japanese only:
http://news.www.infoseek.co.jp/topics/society/n_nova__20071024_2/

Sorry, Sahashi won't be questioned by the police, but rather by the Labor Standards Office. Sorry, I rushed the translation without checking the details!

No sweat you can re-post your previous blog in a few days when he will be questioned/arrested by the cops. We hope.

The 25th, pay or no pay! Comments anyone?

The warrants were just exercised according to the Jasdaq. Nova has just been pumped with capital. I think we will all be getting paid tomorrow. I for one never doubted Sahashi for a second.

...cannot exercise the warrents unless it's above ¥35. ...So no pay folks!...GAMES OVA!!!

the warrants were exercised. you'll see that i'm right tomorrow. you're all fools. it ain't over, it's just begun.

I contacted my local Hello work office today....

Even if we resign we can still claim unemployment benefit, providing that you prove Nova delayed paying you twice, which is a breach of contract. You might like to get bank statements, or the signed admissions (faxes) from Nova.

Go through the regular resignation procedure at Nova. Make sure on your resignation form that you state you want a certificate of resignation, or other document stating that you have resigned from Nova and how long you worked there (if under one year). (My AAM informed me that under the current circumstances we are obliged to give no more than 24 hours notice.) In addition, make sure you have a copy of your Nova contract.

Take these documents to your local Hello Work office and enrol to receive unemployment benefit. It takes four weeks to process and receive your first payment.

the US uses 30% of the worlds resources, yet only represents 5% of the worlds population, Africa one of the most resource rich continents has been raped and left poor....the US creates wars out of false information, etc, etc

I bought one-way when I came here. It doesn't affect me, but I'm sure others also bought one-way tickets. They're not ALWAYS cheaper than round-trip, although I've noted that silly phenomenon in my life occasionally.
