It turns out that the fax Nova president "Nozom" Sahashi sent out telling everyone not worry was a lie. Titled instructors still have not been paid, making pay 11 days late. The cruel irony is that they were given a payslip, just not the money itself. Ha ha, very funny. Isn't that illegal?
The Japan Times today weighed in on what I, Is it all over for Nova? And if you've been following Let's Japan and the forums, then you already know the answer.
"It's kind of like a financial run on a bank," said Louis Carlet, deputy secretary general of the National Union of General Workers Tokyo Nambu, which counts hundreds of Nova employees among its members. "That's why this could be the biggest consumer wipeout in Japanese history, because the customers are depositing all this money as if in a bank, assuming the money will be there, and now . . . Nova students are getting worried that they're gonna get wiped out, so they're rushing to cancel the contracts and the more they rush the more Nova can't pay their bills."
Let that bold type sink in for a moment. This is shaping up to be a shit sandwich that everyone will have to take a bite of. Students are suing for their refunds, the Japanese staff had their bonuses pushed back to October (good luck collecting those!) and their pay delayed (good luck collecting that, too), with the teachers being the latest to be told to wait a bit longer for their pay. All told, that over 400 thousand students and 7,000 Nova employees who are going to have a bite of that sandwich. I've harped about how Nova is out of cash, but forum member allblacks took it upon himself to call up Super Nova racing, who are sponsored by the Nova Group, and ask if they were still receiving cash from Nova. The reply:
Thanks for your email.
I am sorry to hear about your situation in Japan.
Super Nova has not recieved any funding from Japan for a very long time. In fact Super Nova is nothing to do with the Nova Group anymore, and we have had no contact with them this year. In fact we are probably in the same situation as you. Please let me know if yor situation improves.
Good luck for the futute.
"Nozom" couldn't have written it better himself. Somehow, Nova is out of money yet still sponsoring a race team.
The second, and perhaps most useful article for teachers in today's Japan Times, is Advice for Teachers. Read it if you want to know more about your visa, collecting wages, and unemployment insurance.
The Japan Times' third offering is a turd titled, "Why is Nova still the most popular "eikaiwa" chain in Japan?. Nova is still popular? Who knew? I don't know where they came up with that idea for a question and how it relates to the two other stories is beyond me, but I guess they had to fill up space somehow.
That said, it looks like ol' "Nozom" has pulled a rabbit out of his ass hat. According to Sponichi, "Nozom" and Nova Kikaku have offered up 9 million shares as collateral to an equities firm in exchange for some quick cash. Looks like the teachers and staff might finally get paid after all.
What will next payday bring?

What now?
I was supposed to start at NOVA Oct but obvously im not stupid enough to go now. Has NOVA made any public statement? ITs hard to read up about it, is it being hushed up? Also is it worth it to still go to Japan and look for another job with the visa I have with NOVA? Or is it now invalid? Are people still going to work and stuff.
This site has mosly people bashing, can someone post what is actually going on.
Cheers.
What i've heard is that most
What i've heard is that most big companies are looking to recruit from overseas right now.
Very tired
What are you people doing?
Why are you so angry at each other?
Because we are angry people

you boring, shit-eating, pigeon-toed loser?
NOVA and K1 tie up deal
I've heard a rumour recently that NOVA is looking to tie up it's business with the K1 franchise. The merger would include a New Year match up between the Korean Monster and what the press release calls "the biggest, purest, most unadulterated and complete f***ing tosspot arsehole c**tfaced pillow-biter out of the lot of them (NOVA management/ TIs)". The only problem is that they need to find an indiviudal who stands up to the billing. With such a lengthy list of possible candidates from the NOVATRON corp. Elite Training Academy of People Excelling in Excrement, the process of selection may be arduous. The new K1-NOVA franchise is asking for readers help in choosing a title-fight contender to go up against the Korean Monster, ten rounds, no holds barred. Can you help them whittle down the numbers? Names and 1 good reason only.
AT Basher
I recommend AT Basher to go up. He talks pretty tough and even has AT in his name, that alone is reason enough.

You people are coming out
You people are coming out with some "real shit". hey, nobody likes the situation, at least not me, but screwing around when working and calling in sick aint gonna solve the problem, its just gonna makes things worse.
What if teachers who have just come to japan dont want the hassel of trying to find a new job! they've spent alot of money on getting to japan, adapting to the job and new surroundings. Has it ever occured that maybe they might want to wait this thing out a little longer!
heck, its not like this is the first company to ever be in a situation like this, and you guys should've known better from the last time we were paid late and did something sensible like saving money!!!
hate
Some of you guys are 1 step away from the KKK or Hitler's youth. I hate Japan, I hate students, I hate Nova (ok maybe that one's justified). Hate, hate, hate! Where is the love, ffs? Go ahead flame me, then go and get yourself a life
The best I can give
As far as I know, your visa is still valid regardless of what happens with Nova. Nova does not sponsor your visa, which is why instructors can quit as soon as they get to Japan and look for another job. It doesn't matter who you work for, so long as you are actually working or looking for employment. That's the only requirement for your visa, assuming it's a working visa.
You only needed Nova to get the Certificate of Eligibility, and that was just to get the working visa in the first place. If Nova went under after you go the CoE, but before you got the visa, you'd be in trouble. You already have the visa, so Nova is no longer an issue. (http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/03.html)
At http://www.uk.emb-japan.go.jp/en/visa/visa-work.html#humvis it says your visa is dependent on "a contract with public or private organisations in Japan".
Hope that helps! (also hope it's accurate!)
Holy grail
Hoopla, an American giving spelling lessons to Australians! What will we see next, George W Bush receiving the Nobel Peace Prize? Surely not!
I just know you're not going to be able to handle one of them old-fashioned paper dictionaries, so go to an online dictionary, look up "ass", and then look up "arse". OK, now that you've got a clue, stop criticising people for no reason and go back to spanking your monkey.
It must really burn you up that Japan doesn't want to extend the Working Holiday Visa privilege to America. Maybe because Americans need college to get to the educational level of Australian high school students.
For the record: "high school" is two words and is not capitalised or hyphenated; Australians get a high school certificate, not a diploma; working holiday visas can only be renewed twice; "university" is not capitalised unless it is used as part of the university name. Perhaps you need to go to high school in Australia, get a proper education.
Or...
How about instead of hoping Nova goes bankrupt quickly so you can get the money you've "earned", how about you get off your lazy ass, do the work, and help Nova overcome this crisis. But no, you'd prefer to "earn" your unemployment than actually keep the company going. Nice one dimwit!
Great diction!
You'd think an international lawyer would be able to come up with something a tad more sparkling than "moron" or "wanker". Then again, maybe not.
