If you've been following the developments of neo-Nova since its collapse, then The Japan Times story about Nova instructors and staff who are still out of a job six months after G.communication took over is old news.
G.communication's craptacular rebirth of Nova continues.
A 51-year-old Briton who declined to be named said G.education Co., the unit of G.communication Co. that was entrusted to run Nova's operations, fired him after he rejected a request in February to be transferred to Kyushu.
The man said he told the company it is difficult to move to Kyushu because his wife is pregnant.
The hallmark of a company that cares!
A 32-year-old French woman who lost her job at G.education said she has decided to return home in May.
The woman said her students proposed paying her so she could continue her lessons, but she declined the offer because she did not want to impose on them.
This is sad. Students are digging into their wallets to help, and they are the ones who will probably never recover the money lost in Nova's collapse.
The best G.com can do is reply with their usual spin.
G.communication claims that many foreign teachers have quit as they "opted to go home after receiving unpaid salaries" owed to them by Nova.
It's the instructors who are to blame. They all went home. If G.com can't fix Nova, this may become the line they use to absolve them of their failures.
Orwell and Heller would have a ball with this-- G.communication puts its instructors on standby, fires some of them, and then complains about a staff shortage because the instructors went home.
It's not just the instructors that are a "problem," however. The students don't seem to be flocking back to G.communication or other English conversation schools, either.
The Tokyo Shimbun reports that six months after Nova's bankruptcy, of the 300,000 students enrolled at the time, G.com only has about 55,000 of them.
What's worse is that despite plans by major English conversation schools such as AEON and ECC to help former Nova students by offering them discounts, they've only managed to take in a few thousand, far short of the targets they set.
You may recall G.communication's plan was to waive sign up fees and offer 75% discounts to former Nova students, but that hasn't resulted in many takers. Including the 55,000 former Nova students, G.communication's total enrollment is only 65,000 students.
It seems the number of students expected to enroll never materialized. Moreover, in trying to snare former Nova students, English conversation schools have succeeded in alienating their existing student base who have been paying full price for lessons. You would think the schools would have thrown these students a bone, too, and make them feel wanted. Ah, who am I kidding? That's crazy talk. It was naked grab for the students' wallets and they missed.
I get the sense that former Nova students have decided to drop out of the eikaiwa game completely and eat their losses. Who knows if they will ever return? If this is the case, it doesn't bode well for G.communication and its plans to open new schools. They might open new schools only to find that there is nobody to staff them and nobody interested in studying at them.

**WAIVE SIGN UP FEES**
Bullshit. I mean yes they are offering it but it's nothing newly 'waived'. I mean NOVA forever had their entrance fee 'waived' in every campaign.
Actually 55,000 is not such a bad number. NOVA previously had 300,000 students at more than 600 branches. G.com has opened maybe 200 so far (though I haven't checked the current number). So for comparison, multiply 55,000 by 3 and you get 165,000. This in itself is not such a bad result if you consider the circumstances. If students were paying 100% G.com NOVA would be doing fine right now.
G.com's problem now isn't a lack of students, it's the exodus of teachers resulting from horrible human resource management. If someone does a survey of students across Japan they'll find that many students can't book lessons now. I know this has been the case in Yamaguchi and Hiroshima branches for over a month and they can't find replacements because other branches are also understaffed and people are refusing to transfer.
Students at my former branch are complaining and cancelling contracts, and if this get's out into the japanese media it will kill neo-NOVA for sure.
G scum is dead all ready, it just dosent know it
G scum is dead all ready, it just dosent know it. The teachers left because promises were broken to them and the teachers that remain will soon leave. The students only have to sign 1 month contracts instead of the long term ones Nova tied them down too. Soon they will leave and tell all the friends not to go to neo nova.
The students who still go to G con will get so annoyed at not booking lessons and when they get a lesson having 5 students in a class with a teacher who dosent care about the company, they will leave.
This is all G scums fault. Their poor resource planning has got them into this mess and the forced exodus of teachers in january when they put half the teachers on standby and introduced the 40 students to 1 teacher rule put a nail in their coffin. Teachers were forced out and if anybody knows anyone who had any assocaiation with Nova, they will know NOT to work for them and will take great pleasure in seeing the company crash and burn. So as for the 20,000 teachers coming in to save the day, they can think again.
In the future, G joke will die, probabaly early next year. Teachers who have been in japan for a long time will stay and take alt positions. As for the students, most will give up on english. The rest will realise that private teachers are the way foreward and we will see more websites acting as agents for students and teachers. And hopefully, one day, monkey chopsticks will finally go to jail.
Translation, tags, keywords, google, yahoo and Japanese
Sometimes I wish Japanese students could read this blog. Because it they knew how bad is the reputation of G-COM among the teachers, it could help Japan to get rid of those scavengers.
They are studying English so they might try to understand those comments if they where popping up in google or yahoo when they type in ジー・コミュニケーション(G-COM) or ノヴァ(NOVA)
But unfortunately, although this blog has a pretty good rank on google in English, it doesn't appear in the Japanese version because we don't write in Japanese.
Translating all our comments in Japanese would be way too complicated but we can pass them into:
I know the translation is really bad but it gives an idea to the reader of the subject AND, even more important, keywords and tags in Japanese for google and yahoo.

My private student got a letter from G.Com last week saying that she can use all of her old Nova points if she signs up this month.

awesome post man. its always good to reitterate things that everyone has known and been saying for months. your next post could be about how america went into iraq for oil not freedom.
G STRING FINISHED. IT IS ALL OVER.
What, students who had their money eaten don’t trust Eikaiwa Chains anymore?
What, investors and financiers, burned by Nova Corporations (and other now extinct chains) creative accounting, and sucked in by their initial glowing financial reports, while not focusing on the future inevitable consequences of a business model built for implosion, don’t trust Eikaiwa Chains anymore?
The Japanese are once bitten, twice bitten, three times bitten, shy? How extraordinary !!!!
What? People are no longer prepared to have their hard earned bucks eaten by yakusa style fly by nighter language school bullshit artists?
What? The differences and uniqueness of Japan is not enough to have instructors work around the clock, on a near volunteer basis, with no job security at all?
What, consumers have noticed that Japanese English fluency has not budged one inch, since the wave of Eikaiwa Chains hit the streets, and don’t have faith in it being value for money anymore?
Well Japan has obviously changed, for the worse. What a terrible and horrible country.
I am confused – so many G references - G Con, G Scum, G Spot, G String, G Shit, G Comm? Which G is the correct G?
When is, G whatever, going to resurrect the now putrefied corpse of Nova Corporation?
Very, very, “G” confused. Very.
Why don't you all just quit and end this bullshit farce. Honestly! Have some fucking SELF RESPECT. I know your situations may be difficult but you got some cash in your pockets from the government so get out now.
NOW
GO TO YOUR BRANCH NOW AND RESIGN.
FUCK THIS SHIT COMPANY.
WHEN YOU NEXT LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR YOU WILL LIKE WHAT YOU SEE.
Self Respect?
I will show you some self-respect. Those Nova assholes, and now the new G CUM, they have ruined my life. I am going to hunt down Saruhashi, and poleaxe his head. Then, with his filthy blood splattered all over my face and shirt, then, and only then, will I be able to look myself in the mirror, after doing a trible victory dance, around burning pink bunnies.
self respect
who the fuck are you to tell people how they should be getting self respect?
ill work wherever and for whoever i want for as long or short as i want...
and no anonymous loser online bitch will make me change me mind about that...
ruined life
How in the world could losing a low-skilled job in a crappy company like Nova ruin your life?? Losing a job is of course a setback. There is no reason it should be anything but temporary though. It should be an long-term opportunity for you.
To the loser who said that he did not change his mind as to who he works for, give us a break. Obviously, you are working for G because you are at the bottom of the barrel and cannot find anything better or are totally brain dead. Who else would stay at a crappy company that is obviously on the edge????
The reason people are
The reason people are staying at G-comm is because their salaries are quite high and any other job they will be taking a paycut. Simple. Self Respect? You are a piece of monkey shit
high salaries?
I frankly do not know what people at Gcon are making. I find it very hard to believe their salaries are so high. High eikaiwa salaries?! Give me a break!!
If people want to milk the cow until it dies, I suppose that is their business. You are taking a risk with unpaid wages though. Just don't go crying to everyone this time when they close the doors for good. You have had all the warning anyone could ask for!
I was "let go" by the G some
I was "let go" by the G some time ago, and for the most part happy to have been too. Stress levels down, overall happiness up. That said, when I was working for the most evil turds yet known to gaijin (for 100% salary anyway)I was MUCH better off financially than in the new job. I now make less than 2/3 what I did before. With the first 2 months being probationary too, I'd get more from Hello Work. So until I get some extra P/T work I'm counting every penny.
I'm available
Was just wondering if anyone from Nova FP will be calling me in the coming days as my name and employee details should still be on the database.
"A 51-year-old
"A 51-year-old Briton.....The man said he told the company it is difficult to move to Kyushu because his wife is pregnant."
Respect! 51 years and he becomes father.
Oh Paul
It's okay Paul Hood. If that's how you feel it's okay because this forum respects all forms of self-respect. Even for weak defensive Nova flag wavers such as yourself.
High salaries? ANY OTHER JOB
High salaries?
ANY OTHER JOB = paycut?
I really pitty losers like you. Kiss my ass, you whining retarded moron.
You doesn't deserve it better...
awesome response
Yeah, awesome response, and you're 100% right.
I totally agree with the guy
I totally agree with the guy earlier about the pathetic quality of the posts recently. It's starting to look like a High School chat room with a bunch of angry hormonal teenagers! I'm assuming most people here are supposedly "adults." Grow up people! Let's stay on topic and have an intelligent talk about the real issues concerning our lives here in Japan. Enough with the angry Japan bashing, name calling immature troll-like comments that do nothing but degrade this forum. Oh, and if you are going to make such comments at least get some balls and don't submit by "Anonymous."
Try this, go to Google's translation page at http://translate.google.com/translate_t?langpair=en|es
and type in the translation box "It doesn't go." and hit the translate button.
I guess the Spanish Nova teachers were pissing themselves laughing.
I was just wondering if they still do VOICE. I found VOICE at the old Nova quite a challenge, and like discussing VOICE ROOM ideas. Any discussion on this topic is most welcome.
"I totally agree with the guy earlier about the pathetic quality of the posts recently"
Fair enough
"Let's stay on topic and have an intelligent talk about the real issues concerning our lives here in Japan"
So illuminate us with your wise words then. Enthrall us with discussion of the issues close to our lives a G-Nova.
Lead the intelligent discussion.

Same goes for you drone.
I can't here your opinions on the latest state of Nova.

Seriously, now. You're an English teacher, aren't you.

The local Nova is now a hostess bar. At first,I thought it was quite a drastic change, but then I guess most teachers spent a lot of time flirting and looking up womens skirts in the Voice room, so it hasn't changed that much. Does anyone know of the fate of any other schools that got the chop?
Isn't calling people
Isn't calling people "retards" cutting people down?
opinions already given
Organise now, my opinions have been given (55,000 not so bad). Perhaps it escaped your interest for the lack of coarse language? Or maybe it was just plain boring? In that case it's easy to ignore and move on to the next post (as you did), and better than being smacked in the face with the product of a monkey's bowels or worse in the search for quality information.
Our standard should be the language used by the guy who made the site. If he goes nuts with obscenities then nobody can complain about others doing so, but I don't think he does.
Yeah that hasn't changed. Why do you ask? UR not thinking of going back?
A Nova In Kyoto..is STILL OPEN
how this is possible i dunno..but there is was Monday..doors open..Usagi flags a wavin`...
uhm the one on the north end of the bus route..cant remember the name..not the Sanjo one..though the signs are still up for that.
I found Voice, in general,
I found Voice, in general, to be a pain in the arse. Populated by people with nothing better to do and nowhere cheaper to do it, wanting to be spoon-fed topics and moaning about the air conditioner all the time.
On the VERY few occasions I enjoyed it, it was usually because there was a predominance of visitors from other branches who were capable of, and willing to, converse. Something most of our branch regulars weren't.
when they let 2 teachers have a topic voice..and you could make posters..and advertise it around other schools...we had a bunch where we set records for attendance..25 or more folks..and everyone had a good time..Ninja Voice..Samurai Voice.. and people actually CARED..I stayed up late making a big map of Sengoku Jidai Japan as a game board...spent my free lessons making the game pieces..or making paper throwing-stars..
but of course..it was so popular..and everyone liked it so much..Nova had to cancel it..you couldnt advertise to other schools about it..couldnt make flyers or posters...they stopped having 2 teachers do it..
people used to CARE about Nova..they LIKED working there..then the corporate cunts bean-counted everything..and it all went down-hill..no more raises..weasel ATs...at some branches around Osaka that I worked at, the classes all had postcards, flags, and photos from the gaikokujin worlds..so if you got stuck..you could always look at a photo of England, or New Zealand..and do some speculating talk...(plus you could imagine going home yourself..cuz you could SEE and be reminded how much better home IS) but they had to take all that down so that all the classrooms looked the fucking same..(except the ones that used to have the photos..they looked filthy with all these clean square spots and scotch tape residue where the pictures had been.)
what idiots.
In the last 2 years I never did anything extra for Nova..they certainly never did anything extra for me..I spent my free lessons pretending to work..or stayed in a classroom during no-shows to write letters home...or went to the john for 35 minutes...all to the tune of over 3 months paid in just free lessons and no-shows...thanks suckers...gotta go, my boss is taking me for a beer
It got posted twice.
eat poo, trolls.
You are right it was just plain boring and onesided. Oh, and I forgot wrong.
I find your opinions more offensive than harsh language. You sound like a christian or an ex-AAM.

I know. And the students were just as bad, too!
Cool regarding your 55000 not so bad,
"Actually 55,000 is not such a bad number. NOVA previously had 300,000 students at more than 600 branches. G.com has opened maybe 200 so far (though I haven't checked the current number). So for comparison, multiply 55,000 by 3 and you get 165,000"
I am afraid all of your numbers are wrong. Old Nova had over 900 branches and went bankrupt because of a lack of students so comparing this company to that one isn't exactly a recipe for success. Also G hasn't open anything like 200 branches. You need to stop listening to their propaganda my friend.
And that doesn't get you off the hook drone. We are all still waiting for you serious input and discussion of G-com. Not just stuff you made up and are trying to sell as fact.
This was written on the previous thread by Anonymous. I think it is spot on. No name calling here just the facts:
AVOID JAPAN PERIOD AS A VIABLE PLACE TO TEACH ENGLISH
The days of the language circuit “gravy train” in Japan are well and truly over.
If you are considering do a brief stint in Japan, as a treat after your graduation, as a mid-career long service leave break, or as a professional long-term language instructor, then please, if reasonable work conditions or fair pay are your requirements, forget Japan entirely.
Some how, some way, over the years, mafia style language companies, selling bulk lessons in advance, and then money laundering a fair percentage of those proceeds, before declaring bankruptcy, have essentially gutted what once was a buoyant industry.
For the previous major player, it was a rather simple scam – bulk selling months of lessons in advance, so that enormous profits in the interim were reported, attracting investors, and attracting financiers. On the surface, the big eikaiwa looked like cash cows, and won the confidence of all, with an image of sustainability having been successfully projected, by showing glowing short term financial reports.
But that was until the schools filled up, the market reached saturation point, and students actually started taking their lessons, which of course were sold at non-profitable, non-sustainable rates. Complaints from students unable to book lessons went through the roof, individual schools profits plummeted, and due to activities currently under investigation, no cash reserves could be found to support the schools through any crisis.
That was the Nova Corporation story.
The end result – salaries and work conditions that are abysmal, with no job security on offer whatsoever.
There is now a new kid on the block – G STRING – which is trying its dandiest to pull of what the old Nova did, which was essentially to take as much money in advance as possible (by taking money in advance from consumers), siphon as much of it off as possible (now under investigation), and then deal with the reality of the “model built for implosion” later.
The headaches for G STRING. (a) The Japanese government, under enormous consumer pressure finally had to step in – the crude, rude and dishonest sales practises of the past are now under much greater scrutiny (b) the Japanese consumers are much more wary, and discerning, with regards to how they spend their yen, and who they trust to be the custodians of their yen, and (c) instructors themselves are not as gullible as they were previously – they know, what eikaiwa operators really are, what makes them tick, and how close to the wind they actually sail.
G STRING is in the process of dealing with what has been a very rude shock – it has discovered that the goose that lays the golden egg is dead – the consumers have woken up, and thus, there is no more language land of milk and honey, there will be no rebirth of Nova Corporation, and now, of course, they expect the instructors to pay for it.
Thus, job security and conditions are now worse than ever (and yes, many find that difficult to believe – how could they be any worse?).
There is only one solution – close eikaiwa bandits, like G STRING down, and if you must go to Japan, do not, in a pink fit, or in a pink bunny suit, consider working for an eikaiwa chain to begin with.
Eikaiwa are the reason there is no job security in the language industry in Japan. Eikaiwa are the reason work conditions are so appalling. You sleep with dogs, then, well, expect to wake up with fleas.
Iijat!!
Of course the last two years were bean-counters. Nova was going out of business from day 1. They peaked at whenever and then pissed away their savings and as much debt as they could get before folding. That peak happened long before two years ago. The bean-counters were there to try and stem the haemorraging that had always been occurring. So liking Nova 'before the bean-counters' makes no sense because if anything Nova became more realistic if you will when the bean-counters came in. Before that the difference between real "current" income and expenses was even larger.

The company does right not believing him!
http://www.japanenglishteacher.com/JobDetail.php?job_id=821
Found this today, what a joke!
Eikaiwa is not the reason there is no job security or appalling work conditions in the language industry. In Japan for most of the jobs the conditions are even worse than Eikaiwa which is kind of an island to get gaijin to come to Japan.
Japan is hit by part time or baito(no insurance, no job security at all) generalization. Hit by a very low natality rate. Hit by direct Chinese concurrence. And basically they can't afford English teacher anymore although they desperately need them to keep their international place (Japanese export a lot and their internal market is small and getting smaller). So they make up emergency solutions.

conservative estimate
I wasn't sure if 900 was correct so I erred on the conservative side. Using your numbers you get a larger number of students by comparison. Divide 900 by say 150 you get a factor of 6, instead of 3. Multiply 55,000 by 6 and you get 330,000 students instead of 165,000.
I'm just trying to say that many students have in fact returned. I saw this with my own eyes at my former branch in feb-mar, and teachers I've spoken to from other branches reported the same thing.
That's good news
They returned to finish up their points. Do you think they will buy new points?
No I think G.com will lose a
No I think G.com will lose a lot of students from here on. They had to provide a good product until the students start paying 100% but they've botched it by losing too many teachers. Compaints and cancellations have already started and the damage will be long-lasting.
Yeah I agree with most of
Yeah I agree with most of the above points about eikaiwa, but I also agree with the reply that it's part of a broader deterioration of work conditions and business practises in Japan.
Regarding the mention of yakuza or yakuza-like operators, I have to say I have a lot of suspicions about Inayoshi's backround and his connections. It comes mainly from his charismatic style, his willingness misrepresent the company's actions in public whilst doing the opposite behind the scenes, and the way G.com got big, by buying other companies.

I wonder, do the japanese know the only qualification needed to be an eikaiwa 'teacher' is to be a native speaker of English? That means the homeless guy who begs outside my local supermarket is just as qualified as you guys, put him in a cheap suit and tie and, well....just a thought.

To call him a retard is an insult to all retards."
Yep, I had to attend training with that bloke too. It was really bad. A good example of not how to train people. Did anyone else have to meet this Yamaya?
I was told he was the guy who fired one teacher for "having a bad attitude" in Hakkodate last year.
Sorry the above post was a
Sorry the above post was a reply to another comment, not about a 51yr old getting his wife pregnant.
same here
In my case, in one whole day of his BS there was not one mention of how to deal with 5 student classes, the most significant change they have made teaching-wise. No tips, ideas etc for newer instructors at all.
Same Same
Yes, a few of us had to attend. The bloke was almost crying at one point when we disagreed with him. He shouted a lot, told us we should be more grateful and then sang a song.

Just like my dear old grey
Just like my dear old grey haired daddy was saying to me yesterday "Son, why'd you go and shame us all by working in an eikaiwa ? Can't you hear your poor ma a'cryin'? We've been told not to come to church anymore, the milkman refuses to deliver, and old Mrs Wiffle spat on me just last week." Oh the gnashing of teeth, the rain of tears, he howled to the skies "My son! My son! Why have you treated us so? Why couldn't you do the decent thing like Anonymous? Why couldn't you have gotten a job as a..as a..a..a.."
Maybe we should invite
Maybe we should invite him/her round for a nice decanter of VSOP and a little round of whist. Or maybe Old Maid?
Hi, my names Anonymous. I'm
Hi, my names Anonymous. I'm sure you're pleased to meet me because I have a rapier-like wit and intelligence beyond measure. Why I come here is to demean all you troglodytes for fun. EVERYone knows a person can ONLY be valued by their occupation and therefore I tower above you all from my lofty position as a...as a...a...a...
If you are going to take the
If you are going to take the piss out of most of people who come to this site, at least get your fucking punctuation right.
Anon.
That last sentence had me in stitches. Punctuation doesn't seem to be his strong point, does it?
When my old branch re-opened
When my old branch re-opened in Hokkaido he was there overseeing everything. He is an ass. He made us come to the branch in our suits to clean the filth the previous teachers left, then crammed us in the voice room to review G-Com/EC principles, followed by I kid you not a 30 min lecture about Japanese history. Meantime, this was the day the majority of us just got to this town, our stuff was still sitting outside the branch or in my case my girlfriends car, she was kind enough to drive for two hours to drop it off, yet had to wait for the ass to finish so we could go on break and head to our apts. That night we all went out for some food, and while he did pay, he also bitched at me for sitting in the wrong place, and expected the female staff to act like hostess. By that I mean pour the drinks, order the food, make conversation.
ok i'll be sure to get my 'fucking punctuation' right in the future.
Your only responses always seem to be pointing out typo's and any grammar mistakes in posts.
The might and superiority of being able to point out these mistakes! you guys are the best and really put those who make these fateful mistakes to shame.
With your skills at pointing out trivial little grammar mistakes and typo's why are you wasting your talents here on this discussion board.
I am sure there are many great causes you could offer your exceptional skills to. I think there are scientists still looking to find cures for various forms of cancer, when you have finished checking the rest of the posts here..if you could get on that, that would be great.
Hail the great charisma man, a warning to your kids to study hard at school.
but when you are an eikaiwa 'teacher'..
When you are an eikaiwa 'teacher' who's job can easily be replaced by someone who's only qualification is being a native English speaker, then any job can be considered lofty compared to yours.
I wonder if you included your 'ability' to breath on your CV, that almost ranks alongside your 'ability' to speak English, almost.
... database administrator, solid contract with good benefits, how dare I consider my position lofty to a mighty eikaiwa 'teacher'. I'd better be careful one of you guys doesn't steal my job with your English 'ability'.
I'm sure miss J-girls' parents WILL be interested in your occupation and it WILL be important as to how they value you.
are you ready with those fries and coke?
fantastic!
"If you are going to take the piss out of most of people who come to this site," (ichoseb, 2008)
hmm, if i'm going to take the piss out 'of most of people' who come to this site,
yes, you are so right, I had better get my "fucking punctuation" right next time.
Hey, how about we both brush up on our English grammar together and embark on a fulfilling and rewarding career as an eikaiwa teacher? sound good?
Why couldn't you do the decent thing
"Why couldn't you do the decent thing like Anonymous? Why couldn't you have gotten a job as a..as a..a..a.."
you mean as a..as a..a..a.. database administrator with solid contract, good benefits, career progression and a good wage?
But then why would you want to have to actually do any study to gain a profession when you can go to Japan to chase Japanese girls with just your English 'ability' and get to call yourself an English 'teacher'?
Acting like clowns in your English 'lessons' to keep the customers smiling and paying you're wages. Dignity, self respect.. who needs that?
How's the pension scheme and health benefits you eikaiwa teachers are getting, any good?
fries and coke please.
hey mister know-it-all, at
hey mister know-it-all, at NOVA, i asked that i be enrolled in shakai-hoken 3 years ago when my son was born. this is a comprehensive health/pension benefit for me as well as umbrella coverage for my family. it cost me 39,000 yen/month and covers 100% of my sons health care and doctor visits including his hernia operation until age six! it also paid me 60% for four of the six days i missed due to an appendectomy last year. these benefits were/are far superior than the benefits i had working in the states for an emormously profitable motorsports dealer on the east coast! working for the eikaiwa business is not the most thrilling line of work, but everybody has variations in their circumstances and you are such a fag to think you gots the lowdown on everything. demeaning people and acting so perspicaciously. your the life of the party homey! wow, who is that cool guy? i asked about the cat, you told me about the rat...yes mr. Know-it -all
MY GOD!! I take it all back!
MY GOD!! I take it all back! Database administrator! How could I have been so foolish as to trifle with YOU! A DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR! Words fail me! How can express my apologies? Please allow me to wipe the sweat from your arse-crack, it must build up as you sit there database administrating, and I'm sure (what with your job conveying the status of demi-god upon you) you don't have the time to do it yourself. Oh I am not worthy of such a vestal task I know, but please, look down upon this mere mortal and shine your radiant smile of forgiveness.
Data Management Sounds great and everything....
But you can't really flirt with a database, can you? Or date one? or....
Anyway, call me shallow, and/or pathetic, and you'd be right, but this sloppy grin that is perpetually on my face was never present, when I worked in IT.
True, I'm not as rich anymore, but I don't care.
watch out, mr eikaiwa is coming!
you guys earn 250,000 a month if you're lucky, and have to earn it dancing around like chimps to keep your customers entertained.
Check out any job site and take a look at any database Admin or other IT positions advertised.
Whats that? you need qualifictaions and skills? 6 - 15+ million a year including benefits? to be able to use your skills and earn a good wage in your home country (where you're English 'ability' suddenly becomes worthless)? the possibilty to progress with your career?
I may not be flying jets and wearing a big pair of aviator glasses for a living, but when your job is replacable by unqualified people who can literally walk in off the street and get a job with their English 'ability', then I am very proud of my position and the study I did to get there.
Just for fun, why don't we both try to apply for a job in each others field of work?
now don't forget to include your 'ability' to breathe alongside your English language 'ability' in that CV of yours.
I will purchase a cheap suit and tie, practice my chimp dance, and head straight over to my nearest eikaiwa branch.. ooh , i'm so nervous, what if they ask me tough questions in the interview, like 'what is a noun'?
fries and coke, oh and don't forget the ketchup
you have to pay out for your benefits?
"it also paid me 60% for four of the six days i missed due to an appendectomy last year"
fantastic! they couldn't quite stretch themsleves to pay the other 40% then? and just 4 of the 6 days? yep, you got me there. I'm feeling pretty envious now...
but I guess we all have different standards of what good benefits are.
"But you can't really flirt with a database, can you? Or date one? or...."
thanks Mr. Charisma man, you provide a perfect example of the greatness of eikawa teachers.
You guys are the best!
Hey, sonny, that's
Hey, sonny, that's nothing.
I am 62 years old now and I sired a brace of lovely young sons when I was fifty-five!
The wife left me over it, of course.
However, I went on to marry the mother of my two sons and we are now enjoying an idyllic life in Shikoku.
I have my own eikaiwa with about 150 students and my wife, Miku, does escort work in Matsuyama.
Tax free.
The guy was fired because
The guy was fired because there were no lessons so he just sat in the teachers room reading the paper or what have you. I believe the EC staff complained, so either Steven McIntyre (sp?) or Yamaya went and fired him.
To the Database admin guy
Ok,
You're tar-ing everyone with the same brush here. Not everyone who decides to work eikaiwa is a washout in their own country. I've met quite a few people who worked in IT, Finance and education.
Most move on after a while to other things, some like it and stay, many get enough private students and open their own little schools.
Me, I went back to my own country to continue teaching, getting payed fairly well too. I like others happen to really like Japan and the Japanese so I'm coming back to do a stint as an ALT.
Your fast food analogy is apt, but a bit tired and un-representative.
So, if you are so much better than the rest of us, why even bother using up your time to come in here and slag everyone off? Unless of course you enjoy trolling.
Btw......I wouldn't do database admin, not my thing.
You know I'm beginning to
You know I'm beginning to think "the lady doth protest too much". Just exactly what is it about current/former eikaiwa blokes that gets your lard arse squirming? Were you one yourself once? Mayhap the ONLY gaijin in history who couldn't get a Japanese girlfriend?? You do seem a tad fixated on this whole "charisma-man" term, wouldn't you say? Is that because you have all the charm and interest to the opposite sex, of an old, wet parking ticket? "Hey babe, I'm in database management. Are you ready for some hot, steamy action?"
And to be relatively serious for a micro-second, not everyone on the planet considers their job(relative to others) to be an indicator of their value as a person. Running around shouting "My job's better than yours! Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah!" doesn't really do you much credit.
Back to the joust...twat. Oh, and don't forget to buy yourself lotsa' cool toys (just dip into that bucket of cash) to keep you happy. Or sit alone counting it and saying "See, I have more than you!"
It keeps getting better
"Mayhap the ONLY gaijin in history who couldn't get a Japanese girlfriend??"
Your opinions about Japanese girls seem to be quite disrespectful judging by your writings, like it is a given that any 'gaijin' surely can can 'get' a Japanese girlfriend, is that because you think they are so easy?
Priceless example of Charisma man mentality.
"Hey babe, I'm in database management. Are you ready for some hot, steamy action?"
hmm, Yeah this sounds MUCH better,
"Hey babe, I'm in eikawa 'teacher'. Are you ready for some hot, steamy action?"...?
I am sure you could provide many girls with hot, steamy action.... next to your deep-fat fryer and burger griddle.
where are you going to take your 'many hot Jap babes' then Mr. Charisma man on your abundant wages? I'm sure a man of your calibre wouldn't think twice about a hot date at a Wendy's, and I can just imagine you splitting the bill.
The reality is, status is everything in Japan, and your meagre wages are not going to supply little miss J-girl with all the goods. Suddenly you will not seem so 'cool' when you return home with her to live in your mum and dads basement and she realises she won't be living in a large apartment like the one she saw on friends(I stole that last part from somewhere else, but its fanatstic!)
Please, here's a classic example of Japanese womens' opinion on you guys;
Take a good look in any personals in any magazine, pay close attention the amount of ads with "No english teachers please" written in them. hmmm, yeah, can't see any "No IT professionals please" in there.....just Japanese women seeking 'professionals' for relationships..oops! that doesn't include you! (unless you want to pick up the kind of girl who will actually think you are 'cool' and date you soley because you are a gaijin.. go for it Charsima man!)
"But hey! Mr, Anonymous, We don't need to use personal ads to 'hook up' with da babes, we go out and party wid them!", is some kind of response I can image from you chimps out there. Yes I am sure you can find many 'nice' and 'educated' girls in those tacky, sweaty nightclubs in Roppongi where you brush shoulders along the rest of the gaijin meatheads. But this is a sparkling example to show you guys the reality of how most Japanese women view you. Enjoy.
"lard arse", great! you've never seen me yet you can describe my physical appearance perfectly. Maybe you can add that truly amazing ability to yor CV alongside your 'ability' to breathe and 'teach' English.
Oh, and I don't consider my job(relative to others) to be an indicator of their value as a person. Just yours.
actually, make it a Sprite with those fries.
